New York & Tokyo, 13 April 2026: – Takeshi Yamamoto has been appointed as Head of Capital Formation for Japan with Benefit Street Partners L.L.C. (“BSP” or the “firm”), a specialized private credit manager owned by Franklin Resources, Inc. (“Franklin Templeton”). He will be based in Franklin Templeton’s offices in Tokyo.
Takeshi joins from Blue Owl Japan where he was a managing director. Prior to that, he worked in the financial institutions sales team in the asset management division at Credit Suisse Securities Japan, overseeing distribution of global credit and alternative investment strategies to Japanese investors. He also previously worked at OCBC Bank and Credit Agricole CIB. Takeshi received a Bachelor of Business from Kansai University.
BSP has been active in Japan for over a decade with a significant investor base among the country’s financial institutions, which now represent around 10% of the firm’s $92 billion in AUM1. In partnership with Franklin Templeton, which launched in Japan in 1996, the firm offers a range of private credit products in the Japanese market. However, demand has been strongest for liquid credit – CLOs and loans – reflecting local investor interest in floating rate instruments with spread and higher ratings.
Commenting on the appointment, Allison Davi, Co-COO at BSP, said: “We’re delighted Takeshi has joined us to lead our investor engagement in Japan, operating in collaboration with our wider APAC team and Franklin Templeton.
“Japan is a key global market for BSP, which has operated there for over 10 years and had Japanese investors for much longer. We have a growing number of investors headquartered in the country, with specific needs, so this appointment reflects our ongoing investment and commitment to serve those clients while building out new relationships.
“BSP is focused on expanding our presence globally where we see increasing demand from investors for more exposure to specialized, scaled, and diversified private credit managers with an established track record. We maintain our expectation to surpass $100 billion in AUM by the end of 2026.”
